Since her own childhood, she has worked with handicapped children and adults. For the past 47 years, she has taught not only students with special learning needs, but also students who are college bound music majors in her own private music studio. This unique mix of students of all levels of ability enables her to offer a wide range of activities, performances and competitions that meet every individual need.
Her teaching career began in Boulder, Colorado where she resided until 1984, when she moved to San Antonio, TX. She currently resides in San Antonio with her daughter where she continues to teach and serve as a coauthor/consultant for the Pre-Primer Level of the Theory Time Reproducible Series of music theory materials.
Mary Kathryn has also lectured and led workshops for the Colorado State Music Teachers Association, the Music Teachers National Association, the Accordionists and Teachers Guild (International), and the Texas Music Teachers Association. Most recently, since her daughter was injured eleven years ago, she herself became the parent of a “special needs adult child,” which has given her a unique professional and in-depth personal insight into the unique educational needs of the students she teaches.
In 2009 her presentations included workshops at the TMEA (Teachers NetCafe) Convention in San Antonio, TX, TMTA – Houston, MENC Southwest Division Symposium – Dallas and the American Accordionists” Association in Memphis, TN. In 2010 she has led workshops at the Hand-in-Hand Conference for the Texas State Division of Rehabilitative Services – Division of Blind Services, and MTNA (Albuquerque). In addition to her duties with Dreams Fulfilled Through Music, she maintains a private studio of thirty plus students weekly and provides mentorship for piano pedagogy students at the University of Texas at San Antonio in collaboration with Dr. Courtney Crappell.
In March of 2010, she was a member of a nationally recognized panel on Teaching Beginners with Special Needs moderated by Dr. Randall Faber at the Music Teachers’ National Conference in Albuquerque, NM.   In February of 2011, Ms. Archuleta served as a clinician at the Texas Music Educators Assn.
